A Story

It's all connected

Our adventure in wine began with a change of life. We wanted a life closer to nature, more respectful of Creation and more fraternal. Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato si', was our roadmap and led us to join, in the summer of 2019, the Christian Eco-hamlet of La Bénisson-Dieu, where several families living in this small village in the Loire region share the same project as us.

A commitment

Everything is given

The land is given to us. "Yahweh God placed man in the garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it" (Genesis 2:15). We are only the guardians of the earth. And the earth has a balance of its own which must be respected - and often restored. We have chosen the path of agroforestry, as a complement to phytotherapy, which allows us to restore the diversity of the ecosystem so that it is able to manage potential imbalances. There is a balance to be found between plants, vines, trees and animals.

A spirit

Everything is nature

In deciding to take care of the soil of our vineyards, we have decided to stop treating our plots with sulphur and Bordeaux mixture (copper). This is to encourage the fungi and other micro-organisms that inhabit our soil. In this dynamic, we have decided to do without sulphites (sulphur) in our red wines and to drastically limit their use in our rosé and white wines. In the cellar, the key word is to intervene as little as possible and without inputs. Life is beautiful!

Wines

From a small plot of 30 ares planted with old vines (50 years old), this wine is a Gamay Saint-Romain pure juice. Vinified without inputs, neither filtered nor sulphited, it has a deep ruby colour. On the nose as well as on the palate, the delicately peppery notes typical of the Gamay Saint-Romain from the Côte Roannaise are very present. Beautiful complexity in the mouth with aromas of red fruits and spices. Its tannins are balanced. It has been aged in oak barrels (barrels of several wines) for eleven months. To be decanted if tasted now, otherwise it has the potential to keep for four to six years.
Vinified from the Gamay Saint-Romain grape variety, on a young vine (fifteen years old), from a parcel with a particularly rich and preserved bio-diversity, this wine has a beautiful purple colour, a first nose with notes of red fruits which evolves on aromas of undergrowth. A fresh and greedy attack on the palate. Aged in oak barrels (barrels of several wines) for eleven months, it was bottled in early summer 2020. Like our cuvée Laudato si', this wine was vinified without inputs, neither filtered nor sulphited. A limpid, clear and straightforward wine!
On a plot of 50 ares, we obtain small yields for a Chardonnay that is particularly expressive and concentrated, lively and round, mineral and evolved. This wine has a crystalline colour with deep golden reflections. An intense nose with white peach and acacia aromas, with hints of honey and wax. A fruity attack with a good length in the mouth, and a character that is both mineral and round.
"Wine is water filled with sunshine," Galileo said. For this first vintage, we have selected grapes from Gamay Saint-Romain that are capable of producing a dense rosé that is sufficiently structured to accompany an entire meal. A full-bodied wine, full of energy, with an amber colour and a greedy nose. It has a sustained and intense colour. Mineral and tense attack. Nice length in the mouth.

The press is talking about it

On November 22, 2022, we had the pleasure of welcoming Elodie Dambricourt, from Radio Notre Dame, to the winery. Elodie came to interview us about our new life as winemakers for her show Philantropia. A new way to get to know us better and what motivates us on a daily basis.
Have a good listen! And don't forget: "Drink less but drink better! Drink La Bénisson-Dieu!"

On September 24, 2021, we were in Paris, on the air of Radio Notre-Dame, invited by Laurence Monroe for her programme En quête de sens. The theme of the day was: "Can we do without wine? The question deserves to be asked, even if you can imagine the answer given by winegrowers... A short hour of listening to be tasted and savoured around our two people, Régis and Aude-Reine, and Bruno Quenioux, author of La vie mystérieuse du vin (Paris, Le Cherche-Midi, 2019).

On Sunday, October 11, 2020, on France Inter and François-Régis Gaudry's programme On va déguster, lawyer and columnist Eric Morain was kind enough to present our Rosé 2019, alongside Jean-Louis Dutraive's Gamay (Domaine de la Grand' Cour in Fleurie, Beaujolais).
To be listened to without moderation, before discovering our real wines (Blanc Chardonnay, Rosé Gamay Saint-Romain, and Red Gamay Saint-Romain - including our Laudato Si).
